- BookOpen Access30 Jahre Frauenbeauftragte an der Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg(FAU University Press, 2019-10-28) Enzelberger, Sabina; Keilhauer, Annette; Enzelberger, Manfred; Schöck, Thomas A. H.; Wittern-Sterzel, RenateThis chronicle documents the multifaceted developments of 30 years of equal opportunity management at the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg. Starting point is an introduction to the history of female scholars at German universities and at the Friedrich-Alexander Universität up until the start of official women’s advancement in 1989. Thereafter, the most important measures and initiatives set in motion in the following three decades by the University women’s representatives are described and presented in a detailed and richly illustrated chronological synopsis. The chronicle subsequently focusses on the most important areas of gender equality management, lists award-winning projects, and gives a brief overview of gender studies in Germany and at the Friedrich-Alexander University. It ends with an appraisal of the present situation and an outlook into the future tasks and desiderata of the office of the University women’s representatives. The chronicle is based on an extensive study of the literature and on numerous archive documents, of which some are made available in a digital appendix. For the first time, the engagement of many protagonists at the Friedrich-Alexander University over the course of more than 30 years is, thus, elaborated and acknowledged accordingly. The chronicle also casts a spotlight on the socio-political context in which this engagement developed, its achievement and the deficits still to be deplored.

- Doctoral thesisOpen AccessAb-initio investigation of dissociative electron attachment to halogenated hydrocarbons on the ice surfaceFAU Studies Mathematics & Physics : 17, (FAU University Press, 2020-04-24) Auburger, Philipp; Bockstedte, MichelNowadays industrially produced chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) substantiallymodify the global climate, since their emission leads to environmentallyhazardous ozone depleting reactions. Beforehand photoexcited low-energyelectrons must attach dissociatively (DEA) to the CFCs on catalytically active icy grains in the terrestrial atmosphere. This is the first systematic ab-initio study providing a comprehensivepicture of activation and course of these intermediate chemical reactionsvia analysing prototypical adsorbed molecules (phenyl halogenides) and icesurface structures. A characteristic scenario for the microscopic mechanisms and the relevantelectronic structures is found employing GW and underlying plane waveperiodic supercell DFT calculations. Insight into direct neutralphotodissociation is given by subsequent BSE calculations. The theoreticalresults are entirely consistent with the observations, made e.g. via STMor 2PPE experiments, and contribute significantly to their explanation.Apart from that nascent solvated electrons at the ice surface are offundamental interest, since they can induce reactions of adsorbates in awide range of energy and time scales. The results evidence a connectionbetween electron solvation and reorientations of ice surface molecules.
Jahrhundert. Eine korpusbasierte linguistische Diskursanalyse an Fachtexten der Jahre 2000-2019FAU Studien aus der Philosophischen Fakultät : 20, (FAU University Press, 2021-12-30) Peters, Joachim; Habermann, MechthildPalliative medicine has evolved into an independent medical discipline over the past 20 years. In this diachronic study, the ongoing institutionalization of palliative medicine is analyzed using corpus-linguistic methods. The gradual establishment of the new discipline is made comprehensible by analyzing a specialized text corpus containing more than 60 million words. At the same time, new methods of diachronic analysis of large corpora are explored within the scope of the study. A multi-perspective corpus design allows detailed insights into different phases of the history of modern palliative medicine. A concise description of key terms, values and attitudes makes it possible to grasp the essence of palliative care.
- Doctoral thesisOpen AccessKumulatives Walzplattieren : Bewertung der Umformeigenschaften mehrlagiger Blechwerkstoffe der ausscheidungshärtbaren Legierung AA6014FAU Studien aus dem Maschinenbau : 352, (FAU University Press, 2020-09-29) Herrmann, Jürgen; Merklein, Marion; Franke, Jörg; Hanenkamp, Nico; Merklein, Marion; Schmidt, Michael; Wartzack, SandroAccumulative Roll Bonding is a well-known process for the production of semi-finished sheet material with an ultra-fine grained microstructure. Against the background of lightweight design, the increase in strength that can be achieved is a significant advantage. The industrial implementation of the process is prevented by a lack of knowledge of the material behavior of the high-strength, multi-layered sheet material in forming processes. The aim of this work is the evaluation of the forming properties of the ultra-fine grained aluminum alloy AA6014. For this purpose, the resulting material properties are examined depending on the parameters of the Accumulative Roll Bonding process. The focus is on a new approach to tempering the working rolls in the rolling process. The forming properties as well as the forming limits are analyzed based on the processes of deep drawing and bending. Finally, the well-known approach of Tailor Heat Treated Blanks technology to enhance the formability as a result of a local short-term heat treatment is transferred to the multi-layered, high-strength aluminum alloy AA6014. On the basis of the results of this work, the performance of the investigated materials for use in metal forming technology is demonstrated. Increasing the potential for lightweight construction by significantly increasing the specific strength of semi-finished sheet material can make a contribution to meeting the high requirements for future mobility concepts.
- Doctoral thesisOpen AccessAkustisch erweiterte Virtualisierung von Industrieprodukten(FAU University Press, 2021-02-22) Münch, Hannes; Becker, StefanVirtual reality applications can significantly accelerate the virtual product development process. Since the focus of industrial applications has so far been mainly on visual perception, an acoustic enhancement to an audiovisual virtual scene is investigated. In virtual product development, the aim is to avoid measurements of physical prototypes. This results in a trade-off for the auralization of machine noise. On the one hand, the acoustic reproduction should be perceived as spatially resolved, directionally accurate, interactive and realistic, which requires extensive virboacoustic simulations. On the other hand, the desired approach is only of practical relevance if it is efficient in terms of numerical efforts. For the auralization of vibration-induced machine noise, a generally applicable approach is developed that meets these requirements. The approach is applied to the complex industrial product of an axial piston pump and validated among others by listening tests. The result shows that a plausible machine noise can be achieved with the current possibilities of acoustic simulation technology.
- Doctoral thesisOpen AccessDie akustooptische Strahlformung in der LasermaterialbearbeitungFAU Studien aus dem Maschinenbau : 373, (FAU University Press, 2021-08-27) Strauß, Johannes; Schmidt, Michael; Franke, Jörg; Hanenkamp, Nico; Hausotte, Tino; Merklein, Marion; Schmidt, Michael; Wartzack, SandroThis work addresses the issue of fast energy distribution relative to a workpiece when laser material processing. Therefore, available technologies are evaluated by their dynamic by the data transfer rate. This rate is the number of resolvable spots per unit time the system can generate. The idea of beam shaping using the acousto-optic effect shows the highest data transfer rate. This idea was caught up in this thesis and a new technology for laser beam shaping is presented. The innovation of this new technology is the calculation of the signals necessary for the acousto-optic laser beam shaping (AOS). An Iterative-Fourier-Transformation-Algorithm for producing efficient laser beam shaping has been developed within this work. First, the thesis deals with the general features of the AOS-technology: switching rate, maximum applicable laser power and restrictions for the achievable intensity distributions. Moreover, hardware to apply this technology with multi-kW-lasers is commercially available. These characteristics make AOS nearly universally applicable with all kind of laser sources in pulsed and continuous wave (cw) operations.
- Doctoral thesisOpen AccessAcquisition, Filtering and Analysis of Positional and Inertial Data in SportsFAU Studien aus der Informatik : 2, (FAU University Press, 2017-11-13) Kautz, ThomasThe world of sports is being transformed by the rise of automated systems which enable the monitoring of athletes. Such systems provide objective assessments about the performance of athletes, the loads they are exposed to or their tactical behavior. Presently, data collection, preparation and analysis are still often performed in a manual or semi-automatic manner. This process can be time-consuming and subjective, impeding accurate long-term monitoring of athletes. Streamlining this process may facilitate the data acquisition considerably and enable a transition of the subsequent analysis from subjective impressions to objective and accurate evaluations. This thesis addresses several challenges in turning the above-mentioned desiderata into practical solutions. It provides innovative approaches for improving and extending the acquisition, filtering and analysis of positional and inertial data. The contributions of this thesis have the potential to considerably facilitate activity monitoring in sports and thus provide a basis for future studies in sports science.
- Doctoral thesisOpen AccessAdditive Manufacturing by Metal Fused Filament FabricationFAU Studien Materialwissenschaft und Werkstofftechnik : 26, (FAU University Press, 2023) Thompson, Yvonne; Felfer, Peter J.Metal fused filament fabrication (MF3) with metal-filled filaments is an indirect process that uses polymeric binders for additive shaping of green bodies. These are processed into solid metal parts after debinding and sintering. Due to the filament-based shaping, this process can be used for the additive manufacturing of all sinterable powder materials requiring low investment costs. The MF3 process could thus provide a cost-effective and material-flexible alternative to powder bed fusion (PBF) manufacturing of small metallic components with complex shapes. To enable a successful process application, parameter optimization as well as the selection of the furnace atmosphere for each individual process step is crucial to achieve a high final density. In this context, the applied parameters have a significant influence on the microstructure and the functional and mechanical properties of the manufactured components. It is the aim of this work to identify suitable parameter sets for the individual process steps and to evaluate the applicability of MF3 for AM of various high-value metal alloys. This includes a general parameter optimization for each step of the entire process chain of shaping, debinding and sintering, independently of the processed metal powder. Based on the general process implementation, systematic parameter studies were performed for 316L, Ampersint 1557.02, cp-Ti, IN 718, CoWAlloy3mod, and 99 % pure Cu to derive the best processing strategies for each of these metals.
- Doctoral thesisOpen AccessAdditive Fertigung polymerer optischer Wellenleiter im Aerosol-Jet-VerfahrenFAU Studien aus dem Maschinenbau : 361, (FAU University Press, 2021-03-05) Reitberger, Thomas; Franke, Jörg; Franke, Jörg; Hanenkamp, Nico; Merklein, Marion; Schmidt, Michael; Wartzack, SandroThe digitalization will continue to increase in the coming years and will probably reach undreamt dimensions. In the course of Industry 4.0 and the associated networking of plant parks, modern transportation in air on road and on water, and last but not least modern life with smart home and constant connection to the internet via smartphone, the status offline will probably no longer exist in the near future. Currently, ways and means have to be found to store the ever increasing data packets and to make them transferable in real time if possible. At this point the research work carried out here starts and presents for the first time the possibility of a user-defined applying of polymer optical waveguides (POWs) by digital direct printing using the example of aerosol-jetprinting on the respective substrate surface. The POWs generated in this way achieve values of transmittance over 91 %, attenuation rates of up to 0.2 dB/cm and are capable of transmitting up to 10 Gbit/s, which qualifies them for the necessary substitution of metallic conductors. Based on the fundamentals of optical data transmission, a definition of the term polymer optical waveguide and its differentiation from common waveguide forms is given by the manufacturing process used. Subsequently, the OPTAVER-Process and the associated process chain are described. During the qualification of the manufacturing process, important basics for future further work and first industrial applications could be developed. In AJ-printing, POWs with optical quality can be built up on three-dimensional surfaces, but there are still some challenges that have to be met. Suitable materials, process parameters, qualification and characterization and modelling methods could be identified and their suitability evaluated. In future applications, the technology presented here should therefore be taken into account, since resources, materials and weight can be saved, and a fully functional network structure can be adapted to the respective requirements. A few adjustments to the machine settings can manipulate the length, width, height, layout and the associated data transmission capacity. Finally, the solution approach presented here is characterized by its environmental friendliness, as the use of chemicals, which are needed in standard etching or developing processes, can be dispensed with.
- BookOpen AccessGrund- und menschenrechtskonforme Ausgestaltung der Aufnahme afghanischer Ortskräfte. Expert Opinion der FAU Human Rights Clinic 2021/22 in Kooperation mit Pro AsylFAU Studien zu Menschenrechten : 8, (FAU University Press, 2023-06-27) Hikele, Sarah; Roch, Sabrina; Schmid, Lena; Weyers, LuisaThe pictures of the abrupt withdrawal of international troops from Afghanistan in the summer of 2021 travelled around the world. With the fall of Kabul on 15 August 2021, the country fell back under Taliban rule. Only a fraction of the local forces working for the Bundeswehr or other German organisations were evacuated. Thousands of local forces are still trapped in Afghanistan and are threatened and persecuted by the Taliban as collaborators. This study is the result of the FAU Human Rights Clinic 2021/22, during which students of the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg, in cooperation with PRO ASYL, dealt with the human rights issues of the reception of local forces. In the course of the research, interviews were conducted with lawyers, staff from human rights organisations and affected local workers. The study documents the events in the summer of 2021, elaborates on the problems of the so-called local staff procedure (Ortskräfteverfahren) and makes proposals for a human rights-compliant interpretation of section 22 sentence 2 of the Residence Act (AufenthG) and the introduction of new protection instruments.
- Doctoral thesisOpen AccessAdvanced Digital Predistortion Algorithms for modern Base-Station Front-Ends. A physically motivated approachFAU Studien aus der Elektrotechnik : 11, (FAU University Press, 2018-01-30) Donati, GiovanniThe power amplifier (PA) is the key component of the transmit chain in a mobile telecommunication system. It allows the coverage of a wide service area but it’s non-linear effects need to be compensated in order to obtain high linearity and efficiency without introducing interference on the adjacent channels. Digital Pre-Distortion (DPD) is the commonly used solution to overcome these problems. The The LTE system makes use of OFDM modulation used in modern systems, provides signals with wide bandwidth, but low average power, thus common PA designs achieve low average efficiency. Dual-input Doherty power amplifiers with digital steering introduce new degrees of freedom in terms of linearization and reconfiguration. This work analyzes the tradeoffs between linearity, efficiency and linearization bandwidth, when digitally driving the DPA inputs separately. The knowledge of the physics of the devices allows to design a workflow to linearize the dual-input DPA obtaining high efficiency and reconfigurability. In this work an application of a bio inspired optimization algorithm show how to calibrate the DPD directly at the base-station.
- BookOpen AccessAdventus Episcopi : Das Adventusritual der Bischöfe zu Bamberg im ausgehenden Mittelalter im Vergleich zwischen ihrer Kathedralstadt und der Reichsstadt NürnbergAusgezeichnete Abschlussarbeiten der Erlanger Geschichtswissenschaft : 10, (FAU University Press, 2020-12-22) Bub, AnnaThe medieval adventus, the ceremonial act of a ruler entering a town subjected to him for the first time, has been understood by all involved parties as a possibility to negotiate and display hierarchies of power and dependency on the basis of rituals and symbolic communication. The present study undertakes a comparative analysis of the adventus of the bishops of Bamberg into their episcopal city as well as the ceremonial entry into the imperial town of Nuremberg towards the end of the Middle Ages. The study is based on a variety of sources ranging from letters of invitation, entry lists and entry descriptions to bills and fire regulations. These are available for the first time as an edition in the appendix of the study. The sources are consulted to understand the process and the exact design of the ceremonial entries. Further, they form the basis for analysing the symbolic agency of individuals within the ceremony. The metalevel of source criticism becomes an object of investigation beyond the former considerations. It offers the possibility to reflect on and compare the given structures of power between bishop and diocesan chapter or bishop and town council respectively.
- Doctoral thesisOpen AccessAeroacoustic Noise Prediction of Automotive HVAC SystemsFAU Forschungen, Reihe B, Medizin, Naturwissenschaft, Technik : 27, (FAU University Press, 2019-07-25) Tautz, Matthias; Becker, StefanDue to the electrification of cars and the reduction of noise generated by the powertrain, the automotive industry has gained growing interest for computer-based acoustic design of HVAC systems. In order to implement tools for virtual noise reduction, it is necessary to develop simulation procedures that are able to reliably predict the aeroacoustic noise of HVAC systems and their components. For this purpose, a hybrid simulation technique was proposed and tested in this work: First of all, the non-stationary flow was computed by use of a common finite volume solver; subsequently, the aeroacoustic sources were evaluated; finally, the sound radiation was simulated by a finite element code. The coupling procedure between these simulation steps is a crucial task to achieve excellent results, for which two aeroacoustic approaches were tested. Applying Lighthill's analogy was able to yield spectra in good agreement with experiments. However, the effort required for the implementation and acoustic simulation was high, while the possibilities for source analysis were limited. These problems did not occur when the acoustic perturbation equations (APE) in form of the perturbed convective wave equation (PCWE) were used. This approach provides insight into the pure sound source and propagation fields. However, it was found to be more sensitive regarding numerical noise and the truncation of sources. Based on these findings, this work revealed how the proposed procedure can be used to successfully predict the far-field noise spectra of a generic air outlet, a real air outlet of a car, an HVAC unit, a centrifugal fan, and eventually a complete HVAC system. Therefore, this work demonstrated the applicability of hybrid approaches for the prediction of HVAC noise. Furthermore, details on their correct usage are provided to enable the error diagnostics of aeroacoustic simulations also in other fields of application. These findings offer the basis for the development of computer-based acoustic design tools for HVAC systems and thus pave the way for further improvements regarding practical usage.
- Doctoral thesisOpen AccessDer Aerosol-Jet-Druck Dielektrischer Elastomere als additives Fertigungsverfahren für elastische mechatronische KomponentenFAU Studien aus dem Maschinenbau : 398, (FAU University Press, 2022-07-22) Reitelshöfer, Sebastian; Franke, Jörg; Franke, Jörg; Hanenkamp, Nico; Hausotte, Tino; Merklein, Marion; Schmidt, Michael; Wartzack, SandroThe main subject of the dissertation is the research on a novel additive manufacturing approach for the production of elastic mechatronic components. The combination of variations and further developments of the aerosol jet printing process for the production of stacked dielectric elastomers is described. The framework of a prototypical use case for deriving the necessary and desirable properties of such flexible mechatronic systems and thus ultimately the requirements for a manufacturing process is formed by compliant and thus adaptable robot systems. Their macroscopically effective kinematics and active surfaces combine a catalogue of characteristics which will also allow the transfer of the knowledge gained to other application domains of flexible mechatronic systems in the future. The methods presented for the production of flexible electrodes, silicone dielectrics and integrated actuators and sensors include, on the one hand, multi-aerosol printing of RTV2 silicones for the programmable production of silicone layers with layer thicknesses in the range of 10 µm and their stacking to form solid bodies with several hundred layers. Furthermore, novel approaches for time-efficient aerosol jet printing of elastic electrode structures based on reduced graphene oxide are presented. These are produced using a novel hybrid atomiser that combines pneumatic and ultrasonic-based aerosol generation. In addition, the direct printing of filled polymer matrices by combining three aerosol streams is described. With these novel approaches, the fabrication of prototype elastic mechatronic components in an integrated process device is demonstrated.
- BookOpen AccessAkzeptiere : Das Buch und seine Geschichte. Deutsche Übersetzung mit Einleitung und Kommentar von Atli Magnus Seelow(FAU University Press, 2019-02-05) Seelow, Atli MagnusThe »Stockholm Exhibition 1930 of Arts and Crafts and Home Industries« (›Stockholmsutställningen 1930 av konstindustri, konsthantverk och hemslöjd‹) and the Acceptera-manifesto, published the following year by the exhibition organizers – Gunnar Asplund, Wolter Gahn, Sven Markelius, Gregor Paulsson, Eskil Sundahl und Uno Åhrén – mark the breakthrough of Modern Architecture in Sweden as well as in the other Nordic countries. In Acceptera (›Accept‹) the authors promote, under the term »Functionalism«, or »Funkis«, a modernisation of architecture, urban planning and the arts and crafts, which is the product of inevitable progress and which has to be »accepted« — thus the title of the book. In subsequent years this functionalism develops into an equally aesthetic and political programme for the restructuring of Sweden to a »folkhem« (literally ›a people’s home‹), the term symbolising Sweden’s welfare state. This book makes the text of the Acceptera-Manifesto accessible to the interested reader in German for the first time. In addition, the history of the book is investigated: the various movements and developments that contribute to the Stockholm exhibition and the publication of Acceptera are examined; the reception and impact of the book are also taken into account. Finally, this edition is extensively annotated and its design follows the Swedish original from 1931 as it constitutes an integral part of the book.
- Doctoral thesisOpen AccessAl‐Al‐Verbundguss – Technologische Grundlagen und werkstoffkundliche Charakterisierung der stofflichen Anbindung von Aluminiumknetlegierungen im Aluminium‐DruckgussFAU Studien Materialwissenschaft und Werkstofftechnik : 15, (FAU University Press, 2017-07-06) Schwankl, MatthiasThe application and combination of different materials is motivated by high complexity and high functionality of modern technical assemblies. This approach is also known as “mixed construction” for optimized lightweight products and involves a deep analysis of the interface/joint between the different parts. Therefore the interface between the solid insert and the casting component is of great interest besides controlling and adapting the casting process. The connection between the individual parts can be realized with form closure, traction or metallic bonding. The connection between the compound partners in this work is realized solely based on metallic bonding. Compound castings made of aluminum wrought alloys and aluminum cast alloys are created. In order to manufacture this kind of connection, the first part is focused on the surface pretreatment and coating technologies for solid Al-Inserts. A special coating process – zincate treatment – is applied in order to activate the insert surface and prevent reoxidation by depositing a thin layer of zinc. Subsequently the production of the compounds starts by using standard cold chamber high pressure die casting technology. A process window is determined and the investigations are supported by numerical calculations for mold filling behavior and solidification. 3 Point-Bending tests and compression shear experiments provide the means for mechanical characterization. In combination with an analytical observation of the interface, a profound understanding between process parameters, compound properties and the mechanism for the interface evolution is the aim of the second part of this work. Furthermore, an import goal can be found in the third part. Via adapted heat treatments the Al-Al-compounds shall be optimized. An improved strength for the cast and wrought alloy sections as well as a dissolution and distribution of zinc to the surrounding Al-matrices is striven. An adapted heat treatment leads to an overall improved compound cohesion and optimized mechanical properties. From the six most used groups of aluminum wrought alloys, 1 mm thick sheets are chosen to be coated with the zincate treatment and show a high coating degree as well as a satisfying adhesive strength. For casting thicknesses of 4 to 6 mm compounds with a defined strength are successfully produced. In general, the casting parameters show a minor influence on the compound properties. Whereas heat treatment leads to strongly improved formability and maximal loads at the point of break in the 3-Point-Bending experiments. A most interesting discussion forms around the topic of interface reactions: A combination of diffusion in the solid, in the liquid and convective effects is responsible for the development of metallic bonding.
- BookOpen AccessKurzbesprechungen ausgewählter Gerichtsentscheidungen aus dem Zivilrecht(FAU University Press, 2017-09-28) Zwickel, Martin; Zwickel, MartinThis book contains 68 analyses of judicial decisions relevant to the state exam in the field of civil law. The analyses were developed within the framework of the online project “Sammlung examensrelevanter Entscheidungen (SEE)” at the Department of Law of the University of Erlangen-Nürnberg. In their brief discussion of the cases, students elaborate on the legal issues arising from these decisions as they are relevant for exam purposes and then deliver an evaluation of them. As a result, this book provides a current overview of a large number of court decisions relevant for legal education and examination. It lends itself to the preparation for legal tests or exams and it is also an excellent reference work on current topics in civil law.
