Abstract

Ten different water-soluble PA[n]s were synthesized during this work and investigated towards their behavior in catalysis reactions in water and their binding abilities with the substrates and products. The PA[n]s had different anionic or cationic substituents at the rims reaching from carboxylato- over phosphonato- and ammonium- to imidazolium-functionality. Furthermore, the carbon chain length to the ionic head of the substituents was either a short ethoxy spacer or a longer propoxy chain. The ammonium- and imidazolium-based PA[n]s could be synthesized and tested as five-membered rings (PA[5]s) as well as PA[6]s. The catalysis reactions of choice have been the SCC and OM. Concerning the electronic and steric effects, the PA[n]s could influence the conversion rates of the catalysis in water positively or negatively.
